Environmental management G4-DMA

Correct waste disposal and systematic investments in environmental protection actions characterize these activities

By means of the Campo Limpo System, inpEV makes it possible to correctly dispose of empty crop protection packages always respecting the environment. Besides making efforts for the System to work in the most efficient way possible and avoiding waste, the Institute seeks to minimize the impacts of the SCL operation and follows various environmental performance indicators within the Rondonópolis (MT) and Taubaté (SP) receiving units, which it manages directly.

The Institute monitors SCL's ecoefficiency annually by means of a tool developed by the Espaço Eco® Foundation, which considers the environmental and economic impacts of the operation. The analysis covers the entire life cycle of packages according to the approach established in ISO 14040 standard: since fabrication of the crop protection packages, including their use, return to the receiving units, transportation to their final disposal and final disposal per se (recycling or incineration).

When comparing SCL's activities and a hypothetical scenario without the existence of the System, it is possible to notice how much reverse logistics of empty crop protection packages continuously contributes to reducing the environmental impacts in the country. Material recycling and the use of return shipment for transportation are the items with the greatest positive impact. G4-EN19 & EN27

The accumulated results (2002 to 2014) indicate environmental benefits equivalent to:

  • 447,000 tons of CO2 that were not emitted, or one million oil barrels that were avoided

  • energy savings of 18.4 million gigajoules, enough to supply 1.7 million households5 during one year

  • one million tons of solid waste that were not generated (which is equivalent to the waste generated by a 500,000 inhabitant city during seven years).

5The peak when comparing the numbers informed in previous reports is justifiable because it adjusts for a failure in communicating this information. In other publications, the annual economic data was incorrectly indicated as the result accumulated since 2002.

Illegal products

SCL also acts in the correct disposal of counterfeit or contraband crop protection products seized in police operations. 68 tons were disposed of in 2014 in partnership with the National Union of the Industry of Plant Protection Products (Sindiveg - Sindicato Nacional da Indústria de Produtos para Defesa Vegetal).
