The Clean Field Environmental Educational Program (PEACL), launched by inpEV and by the SCL stations in 2010, reached out to more than 6,200 classrooms from 1,500 schools in communities surrounding the receiving units in 21 states in 2014. With the support of pedagogical kits specially developed for 4th and 5th grade elementary school students (distributed free of charge) and the topic "Recycling Pathways" teachers were able to complement learning on the life-cycle of solid waste with practical activities. Around 157,000 students participated in the program's activities in 2014.
As a result, the two main developed activities are the essay and drawing competitions, which have a local and national round. In order to have an idea of the interest generated in children, in 2014 more than 100,000 texts and illustrations were created on the topic "Agriculture in the daily lives of Brazilian families”.
A panel of judges, formed by representatives from entities, companies and professionals from the market, such as journalists, educators, teachers and designers, evaluated 165 works (82 drawings and 83 essays) pre-selected by the receiving units, and awarded the three best in each category.
